Dr. Onaizah served on the Robotics panel at the 13th Annual National WiSE Conference: Reaching for the Stars on January 26, 2025 organized by Women in Science and Engineering.
What can you accomplish during your capstone? Just ask this incredible team of researchers (Jackson Sholdice, Kaitlyn Clancy, Carl Castro, and Lauren Watson) at the Faculty of Engineering – McMaster University who didn’t stop at graduation. Instead, they transformed their final year design project into a research publication and a provisional patent through McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO)!
Over the summer, we welcomed NSERC USRA winner Karolina Teresinska to the team, further accelerating our progress.
At the HeART Lab @ Mac, we have developed the first automated 3D printer for magnetic soft robots, allowing us to go from design to product in minutes. This work was recently published in Advanced Robotics Research! 🎉

We are excited to annouce that Dr. Onaizah has been nominated as ‘Innovator of the Year in 2024’ at McMaster University.
HeART Lab members recently attended the Canadian Celebration of Women in Computing (CAN-CWiC) hosted by CS-Can | Info-Can at York University. We presented our latest work on ‘Designing Small-scale Magnetic Soft Robots using Evolutionary Algorithms’.
All of the attendees were supported by the inaugural CAN-CWiC Travel Grant generously sponsored by the Department of Computing and Software at Faculty of Engineering – McMaster University. Thank you to Dr. Swati Mishra for all her hard work in making this possible. Congratulations to all of the attendees and presenters.
Congrats Shivam
Huge congratulations to ! He placed second in the Master’s category at the ‘MIRA Knowledge Exchange’. He ranked third at the ‘CAS Poster and Demo Session’. Way to represent the  . Of course, none of this would be possible without the excellent work that he has done in his degree, his ICRA paper and the resulting invention disclosure.
HeART Lab receives CFI funding
HeART Lab received funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation – John R. Evans Leaders Fund to build a world class microrobotics laboratory. Read about it here.
HeART Lab wins pitch competition
A pitch for a high-precision robotic surgical technology won us the Judges Choice award at McMaster’s Innovation Matchmaking program.
